Job DescriptionAbout Us The City and County of Denver Auditor's office is seeking to hire a Government Internal Audit Supervisor.

This position will oversee and direct professional internal auditing staff teams responsible for conducting integrated performance, financial, IT, and compliance audits, and other studies of City departments, programs and contracts. The Government Internal Audit Supervisor will be responsible for leading audit work according to varying approaches in response to department needs.

CITY ONLY. This is a City only recruitment for current City and County of Denver employees who are qualified and eligible for promotion, transfer, demotion, or re-promotion. About Our Job The supervisor will supervise performance, financial, IT and compliance audits, lead integrated audit team(s), and be responsible for supporting the organization's vision, goals, and objectives. Responsibilities include planning, directing, and completing business process and internal control review engagements, writing audit reports, and developing and managing staff:

  • Supervises professional audit staff team(s) responsible for conducting integrated audits or evaluations of City and County departments and programs that include but are not limited to effectiveness, efficiency, public policy assessment, governance, internal control and compliance objectives as defined by Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) promulgated by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
  • Works with Audit Services leadership to make initial assessment of issue(s) or problem area(s) by researching best practices, trends, and historical and current data, along with related laws, policies, procedures, methods and/or practices, defining the scope of work, developing the methodology for the collection of relevant data, and assembling and designating data into meaningful formats.
  • Develops or modifies work plans, methods and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
  • Provides work instruction and coaching, and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments; encourages innovation.
  • Successfully oversees and supervises multiple engagements simuntaneously.
  • Resolves problems and mediates conflicts encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions.
  • Produces high quality written products that synthesize and explain complex issues of a variety of audiences, staff, and Citizens of Denver.
  • Performs audit-related oral presentations and briefings.
  • Performs and/or reviews audit follow-up work for assigned audits.
  • Reviews audits or assessments for accuracy, quality and conformance to departmental policy, ordinance, and statute requirements.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and provides coaching, mentoring, and suggests training plans to help staff further develop their skills.
  • Ensures that work activities fully comply with GAGAS and the Audit Service Division's operating policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested. About You Education Requirement: Baccalaureate Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Liberal Arts, or directly related field. Experience Requirement: Minimum of five years of professional level auditing experience, with at least three years of professional level auditing experience as a Senior Internal Auditor. Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have, in addition to the minimum requirements,
    • Experience in government performance, financial, IT, compliance and contract audits,
    • At least one year of supervising audit staff, and at least 6 months leading teams as a Lead Auditor,
    • Familiarity and experience with GAGAS,
    • A graduate degree,
    • An applicable professional certification, such as CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CGAP (Certified Government Auditing Professional), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CRMA (Certification in Risk Management Assurance), or similar,
    • Experience with Team Mate or other electronic working papers. Experience Equivalency: Additional post graduate education may be substituted for one year of the minimum experience requirement.

      Licensure and/or Certification: Possession of a valid class 'R' Driver's License at the time of an offer is required.
