Superintendent is responsible for leading day-to-day operations in
the fabrication shop, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on
schedule, and within budget. This role combines hands-on
supervision with strategic oversight, guiding crews, monitoring
production performance, and enforcing safety and quality standards.
The superintendent acts as a key liaison between shop staff,
project management, and external partners while fostering a culture
of accountability and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
Direct and oversee shop activities, including scheduling, material
flow, logistics, and crew assignments. Enforce safety policies and
lead toolbox talks and safety meetings to maintain a safe work
environment. Supervise material handling, receiving, staging, and
batching to support production goals. Monitor production metrics,
track progress, and communicate updates to project managers and
leadership. Coordinate inspections and quality control measures,
ensuring corrective actions are taken when necessary. Maintain
records such as daily logs, production reports, equipment
maintenance, and shop documentation. Partner with project
management to develop and maintain production schedules and
short-interval plans. Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to
shop personnel, supporting skill development and workforce growth.
Identify efficiency and productivity improvement opportunities and
implement approved strategies. Ensure the shop and yard remain
organized, safe, and compliant with all company and regulatory
standards. Support customer satisfaction by addressing needs
proactively and resolving issues with vendors, subcontractors, and
clients. Participate in company-provided training and professional
development. Ensure labor and equipment time entries are coded
accurately on a daily basis. Perform other duties as required to
support operational success. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in
Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred;
equivalent work experience considered. At least 7 years of relevant
supervisory or leadership experience in a fabrication or shop
environment. Strong background in production processes, scheduling,
and equipment use. Proven leadership and communication skills with
the ability to resolve problems and make timely decisions. Advanced
knowledge of fabrication techniques, equipment, and systems.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate
documentation, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional
teams. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while
guiding diverse teams.
