UCHealth SPD Academy

The SPD Academy is designed for entry level persons interested in developing themselves personally and professionally. SPD Academy combines the book knowledge with real life experience. Students will be oriented to the UCHealth system while simultaneously receiving classroom education and valuable on-the-job trainings. ALL while getting paid!

This program will provide students with the 400 clinical hrs. required for a "Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)," and the cost of the exam is covered by UCHealth! From here the career options are endless! There are a total of 5 certifications specifically tailored to the functions within the Sterile Processing department.

During the 15-week program, students will work with knowledgeable instructors to learn the ins and outs of an SPD departments. Time will be split between the classroom, where students will have the opportunity to learn and understand the importance of SPD; and real life hands- on experience, in a fully operational Sterile Processing Department.

  • Full-time, no experience required
  • Hours per week; 40, eligible for benefits
  • The SPD Academy will be Day shift (0700- 1530) for the duration of a 15-week training program. Upon completion of training program student will be placed on unit for hired shift. (days, evenings, overnights, weekends)
  • This program is a trainee position subject to the terms and conditions of the program, in additions to the job duties listed below


  • Cleans, disinfects, decontaminates, and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment using appropriate methods, substances and equipment.
  • Properly disposes of bio hazardous substances, chemicals, medical waste, and unusable equipment and supplies.
  • Receives, stocks, packages, and distributes medical instruments , Performs and documents required quality assurance testing and inspection on stock.
  • Properly disposes of bio-hazardous substances, chemicals, medical waste, and unusable equipment and supplies.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.


  • Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Certified as a CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) or CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) within 1 year of hire.
  • Minimum Experience: None Required.

The pay range for this position is: $16.07 - $24.1 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

An annual bonus may be paid to eligible employees based upon organizational and individual performance.
